Best Videos of the Year - 10 Top Viewed Videos

It's time for another end of the year round up! 2017 was an interesting year for our family, and we went through a lot of changes! One thing that didn't change, was some of our most popular videos! Which ones carried over from last year? Check out our 10 Top Viewed Videos of 2016 to find out!

Here were our best videos - view wise - for 2017! And I'll try to follow up in a future blog post with my favorite videos of 2017, which may not always be the same as the highest viewed! Check out my favorites of 2016 here!

In reverse order working down to number 1... here are our top viewed videos of 2017!!

10. Magic Kingdom on Halloween (2015)

This video would probably make it into my top 25 video favorites that I've made too. From our second year going to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World. This is one of those neat videos that didn't make the Top 10 Viewed videos last year, and is actually an older video from a 2015 trip... but it "took off" in the middle of this year, as I call it when an older video picks up speed after being more dormant for a while and started garnering more views in the middle of the year. Especially right before Halloween. We had a great time that night! I love seeing how little the girls are too!

9. Kid's Road Trip Boredom Busters!

I love when I can make videos that people find helpful and I think this one hit that mark - Kid's Road Trip Boredom Busters - where I shared some of (many) activities that we use while traveling to entertain and this one made it into our top ten videos this year!

8. MagicBand 2.0 Review and Comparison

Ok, so this is a cool one. We did a MagicBand review on the new style MagicBand 2.0 bands that came out in 2017, with a comparison to the old style and showing both styles side by side on the girls wrists. I figured it would be a helpful video to many, and I think it was.... but, to toot my own horn for a minute - I found out from a friend that DISNEY actually was using my video internally and the developers of the MagicBands themselves were using a clip from my video at conferences... uhm, HOW COOL?!? Not just that they were using a clip from it - but that they had seen it at all!! The imagineers of the bands themselves!! Definitely a Disney geeking out moment for me!!

7. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in the Castle Experience

This is such a fun one!! Our 2016 Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique experience, where the girls both had their hair and makeup done together for the first time! This is probably one of my favorite Disney memories too, and I'm looking forward to them doing this hopefully at least one more time together! (Before they are too cool for school and all that good stuff!)

6. American Girl Shopping Surprise! 

We took a quick trip to the American Girl store in Michigan where I surprised Natalie with the trip there, and shared it in a Shop with Us video. We used up some gift certificates and rewards certificates we had for American Girl. It become our sixth highest viewed video of the year!

5. Christmas morning 2016! 

Our Christmas videos have started becoming some of our higher viewed videos, and Christmas morning was our 5th highest viewed video for the year!

4. Walt Disney World & Disney Cruise Surprise!

Everyone loves a good surprise! Last year we surprised the girls with the news of going to Disney Social Media Moms Celebration 2017 with a big surprise box! It was a lot of fun, and also one of our higher viewed videos for the year! Since I started squealing in the car when I got the email invitation back to 2018 and they were in the car (while we were AT Walt Disney World on our October trip, none the less!) - they already knew about our upcoming trip... so no surprise box at Christmas this year. Sorry guys! I was really excited when I got that email!!

3.  Disney Dream Embarkation Day

Our very first cruise aboard the Disney Dream continues to garner views and new viewers find our videos from that trip every day!! We are especially excited to be going BACK on the Disney Dream in February 2018, for Disney Social Media Moms Celebration 2018! It is a beautiful ship, and I'm excited to have the opportunity to do and see some things that we missed on our previous trip - mainly a trip down the AquaDuck waterslide and dinner in the Enchanted Garden restaurant!

2. Natalie's 5th Birthday

The second highest viewed video of the year was Natalie's 5th birthday video! I think especially our younger viewers love seeing what the girls get for special occasions and seeing them open gifts. Our birthday videos have become quick favorites!

1. American Girl Surprise!

WOW!! Coming in again at #1 this year - American Girl Surprise! was our top viewed video for the year! Accumulating 563,683 additional views in 2017, it did slow down a bit from its previous year's view count... but for a video that I couldn't have guessed would take off THAT much, it has been a huge boost to my channel these past three years. I'm so glad that so many people enjoyed it! Will it still be #1 for 2018? Can't wait to find out!

Sequencing back to work... Stay at Home Mom to Working Mom

The beginning of a great new journey? I took a new job in October 2017 and plan to work full-time, continue with my YouTube channel and blog, travel commitments, as well as attempt to fulfill my "mom duties".

Sequencing Back into Full-Time Work

Sequencing... that's what they call this apparently. After 7 years of being a stay at home mom and being home with my two girls (currently ages 5 and 7, both off to "big school"), I decided to jump back into the full-time work force and "sequence" my way back into working. It makes sense, I suppose, where the name sequencing comes from... we have been on a different schedule and different wavelength for quite a bit of time, and now we need to realign our "sequence" with something more "mainstream".

It's a mixed bag of emotions. Nervousness about whether or not I quite remember what it's like working full-time. Anxiousness about a whole new set of issues to contend with, kiddo pickups, drop-offs, school times that they need to be there by, after school activities they need extra snacks to bring. A bit of sadness because those snuggly baby days are over... there's happiness too though. A happiness of doing something again that is my own, something of my own making.

It is a bit odd, after being in the stay at home mom community for seven years, some of my best friends are career stay at home moms or housewives - which I completely respect by the way, it's a bit job - you kind of get in this mind set that it is just "what you do" and you kind of completely forget that there are women out there working full-time that have been all along. At least I did anyways. And then it hits you, that they have a seven year head start on you jumping back into working - and that makes you break a sweat just a little.

Biggest Challenges of Sequencing 

Happily, I can say that the adjustment on my side has gone fairly well. Not without it's hiccups, but the type of job I took is fun (social media marketing, i.e. I pretty much do at work, what I am sitting here doing right now while writing this article - just for a different company!) and it keeps me busy. The days go fast and I think that really helps, when you're doing something you enjoy and you have full days that are dynamic.

It hasn't been without challenges though, the girls are ages 5 and 7 right now - Natalie is soon to turn 6. Bella has been off at "big school" for 3 years now and has adjusted fairly well to having two working parents. They both go to an after school care and either my husband or myself picks them up when we get off of work. Bella will bound up to us and is excited to see us. It's cute to see her maturity in the situation and she has been doing well.

Adjusting with style!

Natalie, has had a lot of big adjustments this year. We moved across the country into a different culture. She started "big school" going 5 days a week, all day long for the first time for kindergarten this year. And she has been put in a lot of situations where she is meeting new people and making new friends, which luckily is her forte. It's not without it's challenges though, she's young. It's a long day, waking up to go to school at 7:00am and then being at after school care until 5:30pm or beyond. Some days she's cranky, other days she's excited to tell us about her day. As time goes on, I think it will get easier and easier though.

Changes Ahead

All in all, it has gone about as smoothly as I think it could and the transition going from being a stay at home mom to a working mom has been "fine". Only a few weeks into our transition, the few pieces of advice that I would give to anyone considering making the change would be to:

  - Research childcare options and costs that will work with your potential new schedule so that you can factor those into your future salary.

  - The week before you start working, run through the time schedule you will have to be on and "practice" dropping the kids off at school, driving to work, and making sure the timing you anticipate actually works with the commutes.

  - The first week, just focus on getting into the time routine and don't stress about household duties.

I also plan to do some things for myself, like hiring an in-home cleaning service at least once a month to keep the house going, and also allow ourselves to have takeout a bit more than we usually have. I think cutting yourself some slack during the transition helps to not feel stressed out. Since I'm a member of the 2017-2018 Chick-fil-A Moms Panel and it's one of our favorite places to eat, with a kid's play place too as an added bonus for the kids - it will definitely be a favorite that we stop by at least a few times a month!

All in all, it's gone well and I'm interested to see what the future holds! I'm glad I took the leap and it's also working out okay so far for me to keep up with my YouTube Channel and also working during the day. I'll do some videos coming up in the future as to how I am juggling it all!

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party 2017

We are back from our magical vacation and Disney vlogs have started running on my YouTube channel! I will be running the usual recap videos, souvenir haul, taking a look at how we planned and what worked for us after the daily vacation vlogs are done running - but I first wanted to touch on Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, since October and these parties will soon be coming to a close!

First of all, it's worth a mention that... I did it! On a follow-up from my previous post, talking about a plan to maximize our time at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, I mentioned that this would be the first year that our family was in fully themed costumes! We had a lot of fun, it was neat going around at the party and having people express excitement at us when they saw our costumes, and I think the kids had a great time wearing them to meet Star Wars characters at Disney's Hollywood Studios the day before our party night as well!

We did stick to the plan, and had a leisure day during our party day - with a character brunch at 'Ohana at 11:20am for breakfast/lunch, and then back to the resort to swim for a bit before it was party time. We wanted to go into the party with as much energy as possible, to make it as late into the evening as possible. This strategy did pay off, because we did make it until basically close and left Magic Kingdom at 11:30pm to head out to the bus area to catch a bus back to Art of Animation.

Later Party Times?

Our family is well acquainted with Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, in fact it's one of our family's favorite special holiday events to attend. However this year, there was one slight change from previous years that I was interested to see what effect, if any, it had on our party night. And that was the later times for both the Boo-to-You parades, and Hallowishes fireworks show.

We opted to go to the earlier Boo-to-You parade time, and watched again from the Frontierland area, just across from Country Bear Jamboree. Watching the parades from Frontierland has been a great fit for our family, because you are near the starting point of the parade and while it is dim in that particular area so that you can see the parade better, the lighting is still good enough for my camera (Canon g9x, which works great in low light, by the way!) to pick up good shots while we are watching the parade.

We had plenty of time to do some trick-or-treating and ride a few rides before the parade time. The one thing I did notice, is that it felt like we had less time to go from the parade to the Hallowishes fireworks this year. (Which we typically watch from Fantasyland, just to the side of the carousel.) After the parade was done, we were able to go over to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to ride one ride, hit a few trick-or-treating spots in that area, and then had to head straight over to Fantasyland to grab a seat for the fireworks show.

This worked out just fine, I did notice it just felt like less time than previous years. After the fireworks, we had about an hour to ride a few more rides and grab some party specific treats before calling it a night.

How about those treats?

There was a great selection of special party treats to chose from this year at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, and the one I knew I wanted to try for sure was the Pumpkin Cheesecake - and it did not disappoint!

The cheesecake had a light pumpkin coating, that was lighter than an icing and not as sugary, it worked as a great compliment to the cheesecake. The cheesecake itself was moist and had a good flavor to it, not overly powerful in the sweet or tart department.

Our family also tried the Candy Corn Ice Cream, and even my husband that isn't the biggest fan of candy corn took party and enjoyed finishing it off! I thought it had a great flavor, which again wasn't too strong - it should be noted that I am biased... I'm apparently one of the few people in the world that actually LIKES candy corn! I thought it was a fun take on a Halloween tradition, and I would get it again.

The last special party treat that we tried was one of the Haunted Mansion desserts. I ordered the raspberry version from Auntie Gravity's Galactic Goodies for brevity sake since we were already there to pick up the candy corn ice cream, but it was also one of the top two flavor versions of the treat I had hoped to try. We didn't test this one until the following day. (After carrying it home on the bus inside a ziplock container and placing it in our mini refrigerator at our resort.)

This treat was really great and the only change I would do in the future would be trying this one (or one of its four counterpart treats) earlier in the evening, so that it didn't have to be refrigerated. It was still great, but I suspect would be even better right on the spot in the park. Everyone in our family that tried this one really liked it, and next time if they have similar treats in subsequent years, I know we would like to try the Oreo version as well.

Party Night Wrap-up

We had a fun night that included lots of rides, lots of candy, and special Disney fun! The girls enjoyed seeing all of the characters in the parade, one of our favorites, and I still get goosebumps every time the theme park is lit up by the perimeter fireworks that go over at the end of Hallowishes.

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party was a fantastic time, and I think that being able to dress up at the party really puts the experience over the top fun for us. I also think that going into our party night with a plan helped immensely! Having an idea of what order we wanted to do events in helped us to keep our night on track and see all of the things we were wanting to see on our party night.

Back to School in Style!

Back to School in Style

It's back to school time! One of our favorite things to do around back to school is to freshen up our wardrobe! The girls each have their individual style, and they love to mix & match pieces on their own to come up with unique outfits that really display their personality!

Natalie tends to be more girly in her dressing, while Bella has streaks where she loves dresses - but then other times likes to be a little sporty as well!

This X-Temp raglan tee is perfect for Fall days as they start to get a little brisker but you still need to keep cool while being active, and just by coincidence happens to be Alabama colors!

Staying cool and comfy has definitely taken a higher priority here in the Alabama heat, and since they have recess every day, durability is important too! When we are freshening up our wardrobes for the new school year, I like to get a few "special" outfits, this year were our Eleanor Rose dresses, some great play wear, like tops and skorts from Cat and Jack at Target - and comfortable undergarments that will last throughout the school year, like our favorite Hanes socks and underwear.

Back to School... Fashion for Moms!

It's back to school time again, and moms everywhere are running around getting last minute school supplies, planning new school year schedules and freshening up the kids' wardrobes! It isn't just the kids that should add in some new style for back school though, I know I've always loved adding in some new pieces for Fall during back to school season and even now as a Mom have continued this tradition! I have this tunic blouse is a different print and I love the long length and light weight material, it makes it perfect to transition from warmer months to cooler months. The tassels give it a bit of great detail as well!

 - I have this dress in navy and have gotten tons of compliments on it, both in person and in videos! It is available on the Charming Charlie website in the red color. It is easy to pair with accessories and also would look great with a cardigan put over it in the cooler months!

Summer Learning Ideas for Kids

It's the end of summer and we've enjoyed getting in some last minute learning opportunities before school started (very early!) in our new location! I focused a lot of attention on seeing things in our new area and trying out some new activities, so the girls could get a sense of what was available for them in Huntsville. We just ran out of time with only a few weeks available to us after we arrived here, because there was still more on my list of places to see - the Early Works Children's museum, the zoo in either Nashville or Birmingham, Southern Adventure water park, and more! These all had to be moved to the "in the future" list, as school started up for us this week!

Most places across the country will be going back to school over the next few weeks, but here are a few learning activities you can squeeze in to get some last minute summer learning before they head back to school, and start to get those wheels turning before they are back in class!

Exploring Nature

This one may sound like what they were doing most of the summer anyhow! I wanted to take the girls to a new place that we hadn't been before to explore nature and a different outdoor surrounding! This one was easy for us, since we had just moved and EVERYTHING was new to us - but finding a new park, new hiking trail, new garden area, or national site could be something fun in your area!

After we moved to Huntsville, we quickly got a Huntsville Botanical Garden membership because I had heard so many great things about it - and boy were they right! We love the children's play area and butterfly house, and have spent trips just exploring those areas. The rest of the garden is lovely too, and this will be someplace our family will enjoy year round.

We also took a day trip up to Chattanooga, Tennessee before school started to visit a place that my husband and I went to on our honeymoon, Lookout Mountain. This is a gorgeous area of Tennessee with expansive views of that section of the Appalachian Mountains. We took the kids to Ruby Falls for their first time every, and seeing the 165 foot natural underground waterfall in a cave was a really cool adventure for them!

Check out a Museum

This was another easy one for us, being new to the area - we had to of course check out the U.S. Space and Rocket Center shortly after arriving in Huntsville! I am a Space Camp Alumni, I proudly went to Space Camp, Academy, and Advanced Academy a number of times as a youth. This was one thing about the area I couldn't wait to share with my own kids. With lots to do and see, this was a hit for them and another place we purchased a membership to be able to visit all year long!

Brush up on their Math & Memory Skills

Something that can go by the wayside and be the first part of summer learning loss to occur, are math and memory skills. I know that when I'm working on summer learning activities, sometimes math activities can be one of the hardest activities for me to come up with, since math was not my strongest subject for myself. Learning Resources sent me this great game, Lil' Lemonade Stand-off, which puts a unique twist on the traditional game of memory, where the kids can take lemonade orders and earn coins for a correct order.

My girls have loved this one and it's been used a ton even with imaginative play around our house!

Create some Art

In previous summers, you'll remember that we did summer learning units where I would typically pick a theme for the week and then combine different learning activities, stories, hands on activities, and art - that went along with the theme. This isn't something we delved into this year with moving taking up most of our summer, but luckily all of our old videos are still on YouTube for inspiration!

I especially loved this "Under the Sea" unit that we did, to coincide with the release of the movie Finding Dory. The water beads are some of my girls favorite warm weather activities to do as well!

All in all, it's been a great summer for us - and even though I didn't get to everything on our "summer to do list", I still have lots of great ideas of things I'd like for us to see in our new area in the future and we made lots of great memories with the things we did go do as well!

Spring & Summer Style

Spring is finally in full effect here in Michigan, which seems funny to say since it will technically summer soon! With the kids still in school for another week, and the weather just now starting to warm up consistently... it feels like spring is a very short season here! I'm welcoming the warmer weather, along with the style changes that come along with it! Check out some of the Spring and early Summer style picks I'm liking right now!

Spring & Summer Style Picks

Home Style

For home style, I've enjoyed adding in more faux greenery around the house that gives the room a fresh feeling and brighten the rooms up when you chose a light colored or green accent floral. I've gravitated towards white floral pieces or all greenery pieces and added them into rooms like the family room, kitchen - and even the master bathroom! It gives the room a subtle calming feeling and I think it helps the room feel more put together!

I've also been adding in some REAL greenery here and there as well. Fresh flowers are one of my favorite Spring treats to myself. I tend to pick them up at Trader Joe's, based on convenience (it's located near our house) and also selection. I think they have a great range of florals in my favorite colors for decorating.

Kid Style

The girls are of course growing as quickly as the greenery outside, and the change of seasons is always a great time to stock up on items for the new size they are going in to! This season, Isabella is going into some size 7 clothing, and still in size 6 for some items - Natalie is in a size 5 top, and size 4 bottom. For dresses, we are sticking in the 4/5, 5/6, and 6/7 ranges. Recently, I have tried a number of dresses from the clothing company Eleanor Rose, which makes classic style children's clothing which has more of a handmade or more customized feel to it than box store clothing. We are loving the dresses we have added in and shared some of the first ones we purchased in a recent girls' clothing haul:

I've also added to that since then, so I'll have to share what we've added in an upcoming haul video! And we are still loving clothing staples for kid's from Gymboree and Target! I just recently put in a Gymboree order to pick out some items from their mermaid line, and we've also found some great Tsum Tsum pajamas at Target.

We're still loving shoes from companies like Livie & Luca, that we've been purchasing for a number of years! I've added a few new pairs in each of the girls new respective shoe sizes, as they both recently jumped into new shoe sizes as well!

Mom Style

I also like to freshen up my own wardrobe when the seasons change and add in some great pieces that I can mix and match with my functional wardrobe basics that I use from season to season. I might use the same pair of Apt 9 jeans (that are actually capris, but can be double duty if rolled down since I'm short!) in winter that I would use in Spring, and just change the tops and accessories that I would wear with it.

Long flowy cardigans from Nordstrom have been one of my wardrobe staples the past few years, I particularly like the Bobeau brand and can alawys usually find pieces when I stop in that will work great for me. Over the years, I've collected the Bobeau long cardigans in a rainbow of colors and I use those over printed tanks to interchange with different looks. I find this works really well for me, because I feel polished and the outfit is still fun, while working with the demands (read: running after a child) of mom life!
